What is it?

Participants from BAME backgrounds are paired with a professional, DBS-checked online tutor. Through our user-friendly online platform, students study maths and English, working towards Functional Skills exams (coordinated by Infinite Skills). Additionally, each student receives 10 hours of career guidance and employability skills training as part of the program. This initiative can also serve as an alternative to custody and be incorporated into sentence planning.

Support offered?

Definitely! Our Education Officer will provide support from start to finish.

Why?

Pathway to Success aims to help young people from disadvantaged and marginalized BAME communities unlock their potential. We collaborate with various agencies to support these young people in their growth and development.

We specifically target groups such as young individuals from Black African, Black Caribbean, Pakistani, Yemeni, and Bangladeshi backgrounds, as research indicates they often face disparities in educational and employment opportunities. Our program equips young people with the necessary skills for further training or employment.

This initiative assists young people in obtaining Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, which are required for most employment, educational, and apprenticeship opportunities. For instance, in 2018, only 44.2% of Black Caribbean pupils achieved GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4/C or above, compared to 64% of pupils nationally (source: Department for Education, 2018). These communities may also experience high rates of school exclusions and report elevated levels of discrimination. Our program aims to address these disparities and support BAME youth in reaching their full potential.
